Family Photoshoot @ Singapore Botanic Gardens

Photographing in Singapore is always a challenge due the heat and humidity. Seeing the stunning sun shining at the background you never imagine that we were all dripping! Although I don’t miss the New York winter, I must say the humidity in Singapore still challenges me!

Very often people get curious on how I shoot against the sun light, while most of them usually have the light directly on the subject’s face. I only photograph early in the morning or late in the afternoon, when the sunlight is more “golden”—meaning the shadows are more soft. If you try to do the same technique on a brighter hour, you won’t catch this lens flare; your photo will be all white and overexposed. For me, photography is all about light—is like photographing the light and having your subject in composition with it. It makes the photo more interesting, more emotional and it had less harsh shadows on people’s face. Also, can be a bit uncomfortable for your subject to look at the camera if the sun is right behind it—looking straight to the sun will force people to close the eyes a bit and reinforce some wrinkles on forehead.

When the light, the place, the people and the Universe conspire for a beautiful afternoon! Immense gratitude for each person that I’ve met through photography and these smiles are the most precious gift that I could have! <3
